DESCRIPTION:

This comprehensive workshop is designed for welding instructors seeking to deepen their understanding of welding procedures, documentation, and qualification processes while honing their practical welding skills. Attendees will explore essential components of welding qualification, including:

  • Essential and Non-Essential Variables: Learn the critical factors that influence welding procedures and their applications.
  • WPS (Welding Procedure Specification): Gain insights into developing and interpreting detailed welding guidelines.
  • PQR (Procedure Qualification Record): Understand the process of qualifying welding procedures and documenting results.
  • WQTR (Welder Qualification Test Record): Discover how to evaluate and document welder performance.
  • Destructive Testing: Learn how to assess weld integrity through industry-standard testing methods.

Hands-On Practice:
Participants will have the unique opportunity to apply their skills through hands-on welding exercises on 3/8″ plates across various welding processes and positions. This immersive practice will reinforce theoretical knowledge with practical application.

Certification Opportunity:
Attendees demonstrating successful welding skills will have the opportunity to earn an AWS D1.1 weld qualification during the workshop. Presenter Details

Kyle Kopsa has been a welding instructor at NCK Tech College for 21 years. He is a Certified Welding Inspector/Educator through the American Welding Society. He has numerous certifications from AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel), D17.1 (Aerospace), ASME B31.1 and API 1104. Work related experience in the power and gas sector.
