Details

Attendees will learn best practices for ensuring special education students have access and are supported while in the CTE lab and classroom.

We will discuss the implementation of modifications and accommodations in the CTE classroom and resources to support special education students. Additionally, best practices for para educators in the CTE classroom and lab to support special education students will be shared.

We will also highlight student success and the benefits of CTE for all students in preparing for post-secondary success.

Dr. Lindsay King is the Director of College and Career Readiness for Maize USD 266, and the Principal of Maize Career Academy. She leads the Maize Career Academy, College and Career Preparation, Individual Plans of Study, Work Based Learning, Career Awareness and Exploration for Pre-K through 12th grade, and Career and Technical Education courses. She is in her 5th year in this position. She wrote her dissertation on the effect of CTE and on-time graduation for English Language Learners and has increased special population access and achievement in CTE course enrollment, graduation, post secondary credits earned while in high school, non-traditional student concentrators, and program placement. She is an Air Force veteran and Air Force Academy graduate.

Cara Poole has been teaching Culinary and Baking classes for Maize at 13 years, plus prior six years experience in another district. She is a ServSafe proctor, has completed five levels of ProStart Teacher Training, and loves to help mentor new teachers.
