**Open to 30 teachers in the AG Pathway**
Discover the exciting world of horticulture businesses in this hands-on workshop designed for high school horticulture instructors interested in exploring entrepreneurship within the plant and floral industries. This workshop will introduce participants to two thriving business models within horticulture: greenhouse operations and floral design businesses.
Participants will learn how to manage a greenhouse business, including year-round operation, growing schedules, and the operations necessary for healthy plant growth. They will also explore the basics of running a floral design business, from creative bouquet arrangements to understanding the market demand for seasonal flowers.
KEY TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:
- Fundamentals of greenhouse management
- Plant propagation and sustainable practices
- Designing and selling floral arrangements
- Insights into marketing horticulture products
Each participant will leave with ideas they can use as soon as they return to their own classroom, as well as:
- three hanging baskets that they can use to propagate for their own spring sale,
- seeds started for their spring sale
- a fresh flower bouquet
- a corsage or boutonniere
Presenter Details
Kim Clark is in her 20th year in education and is in her 12th year teaching Agriculture at Royal Valley, while previously working at the Kansas State Department of Education with Career and Technical Education for four years and at Marysville for four years. Kim advises her student-run greenhouse business as part of her Plant Systems Pathway.
Shelby Siemens is the agriculture instructor at Marysville High School and is in her 9th year of teaching. She previously taught at Tonganoxie. Shelby advises her student-run business, Bulldog Blooms, which is a floral design class that sells monthly floral arrangements.
